Focusing on ‘Restraining Order Clause’ in line with that of Canada
By Doruvu Paul Jagan Babu
Since crime against women is rising to alarming levels in Andhra Pradesh (India), some women’s organizations started mulling over the inclusion of ‘Restraining Order Clause’ in Indian Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code in line with that of Canada. Some Women Groups came together and organized a general meeting on Women’s Safety both in Kadapa and Proddatur (Andhra Pradesh) simultaneously to take up the issue of ‘Restraining Order Clause’ for elaborate discussion, since the safety of womenfolk in the State is raising questions more often now-a-days.
According to the participants, the outcome of the discussion highlights that ‘this order brought down the cases of harassment to a considerable level in Canada and controlled the crime against women to some extent. Moreover, the order ensures that the accused cannot come within some distance of the victims or complainants and send any communications to them even by email and couriers. Violation of the order will easily be proved via cell phone records or photographs and this will put the accused under the contempt of court and invite penal action by an immediate jail term’.
Some women’s organizations would like to meet all political leaders, especially women leaders in the state and submit their representation for the inclusion of restraining order clause in Indian penal code through legislation. Some women wings have already submitted their agenda of urgent measures to be addressed and enacted.
Main political parties have already adopted different strategies for wooing the women in the state by publicizing their election manifestos via print and electron media, as the countdown to the elections is getting nearer both to Lok Sabha and Assembly. |
