"Could Not Be Reached For Comment"
As fellow journalists, we must continually remind ourselves that we must be objective in every story we produce. It just is not ethical to write one side of the story to the exclusion of all else. This type of one-sided reporting does not educate the audience about the whole issue and allow them to contemplate and make up their own mind; this type of reporting is negligent.
However, sometimes the other side is impossible to get to for comment and thus we usually use the:
"Could Not Be Reached For Comment"
By using this phrase we acknowledge that we did try to be objective and that the other side of the report was given opportunity to respond to the issue being investigated. Not using this phrase tells people your report is biased. Please be sure to make every attempt to get the other side of the story, if their arguments are "crap" then your investigation with analysis will prove their very words to disparage their side of the story. This is the way real journalism should be used and presented to the public. |
