Happy seventh birthday IAIJ!
Corra holding our first press card!
Seven years for IAIJ and in two days seven years for FOF! Wow have we come a long way. I am not a rich man because of this, in fact I belong to the 1 dollar a year salary club along with folk like Steve Jobs. Was it worth all the hassle and expense? I often question that especially when things are not going our way. But some great life experiences were made here. Like getting on TV - having grown up with B&W and looking at color TV in shop windows as a kid it was a rush to do something creative and get involved on the other end of the set. Same for radio and getting published with the books and newspaper and lobbying for the Association. As media change the value of those experiences to others may diminish, but when we did them it was still a big deal - and I will always remain a creature of my times..... In today's world we are still dealing with Billion dollar corporations, and the reason the label still survives is because of our access to that mass audience - through reality TV, radio and radio advertising exposure and now concert production. We are really a part of the reinventing of the music business - that is truly cool stuff for this philosopher/businessman!
If I had just not bothered with any of this I would probably be miserable. Fact is the corporations have done some pretty big things. The people who inhabit this place are here by choice and actually get something out of it, either through government programs, experience for future jobs, creative exposure, and some actually get a regular paycheck (and I'm not talking about me.....). I as President and CEO (but now I only use that on special occasions) have actually attained my goal in business school, not that I thought I would be this poor doing it.....hehehehehe..... But the dream did come true, now all we have to do is keep growing..... |
